Lessa Lamb
Understanding Our Past to Shape Our Future
Lessa shares her thoughts on how knowing the history of Fusion can help us know where we're going. Lessa taught at the very first Fusion Exchange & has been dancing Fusion since before we had a name for it. Join this panel to get some great insights as to how Fusion started & how we can use that to impact our future.
Ben Long
Benefits of Fusion as a Concept, Not a Dance
Ben shares how thinking of Fusion as a concept instead of a dance on it's own, can create a stronger culture of education in your dance scene. Ben taught at the very first Fusion Exchange & and was arguably the person most influential in the popularization of micro-fusion, so he provides a wealth of knowledge to inspire you and your scene. Join this panel to get some great insights on a very controversial topic.
Wren LaFeet
The Impact of Mindfulness and Spirituality
Wren, an embodiment guide, Fusion teacher, and organizer since 2008, shares that many communities fail due to a lack of "spiritual glue," an idea from Naima Ritter Figueres. In cultures with strong partner dance traditions, a broader culture supports the dance, giving people a unified identity. Wren suggests that a thriving Fusion Dance culture might need a guiding principle larger than individual scenes, prompting us to ask big "WHY?" questions to strengthen community education. Join us to explore these questions and find what resonates.
Vanessa Yxcea Corpuz
Future Forecasts of Family-Friendly Fusion
The Theory: Inviting children to participate in family-friendly Fusion events will create more dancers who “grew up fusion dancing” and directly create a stronger culture of education. Join us as Vanessa, a Fusion teacher & organizer that started dancing in 2008, leads us in exploring this fascinating idea for skill development.
July 25, 2-4p PST
Mark Carpenter
Creating Progressive Classes
What do we teach and when do we teach it? Answering this has been a common struggle in the Fusion community. Along with over 2 decades of dance experience, Mark has been passionately working on creating progressive classes for Fusion dancers to help solve this issue and will be sharing his findings on what works, and what doesn't during this panel. Join us to help you figure out how to implement progressive classes for your dance scene.
Eliza Wilder
Re-Engaging Advanced Dancers
Eliza, an organizer of the extremely successful event, Hi-Fi, and Fusion dancer for over 15 years believes that a key to creating a strong culture of education is inspiring the advanced dancers to keep learning. After all, it is often the advanced dancers that set the culture for the scene. Eliza has successfully inspired advanced dancers back into classes and plans to share her learnings with you during this panel so you can bring your advanced dancers back, or keep them from disappearing in the first place.
Fen Kennedy
Turning Dancers Into Nerds
Fen is a full-time dance geek, with a PhD in dance and a day job as a dance professor. Their training in movement analysis combined with their expertise in play has helped them build a pedagogy of self-directed learning. Dancers who have learned to learn and who are motivating themselves get more out of their classes, spend their practice time better, and elevate everyone their whole community.
